Video Tip: Volunteer with Sierra Club of Lancaster

On Saturday, July 31, 9 a.m. the Sierra Club of Lancaster will be conducting a trail clean up at Chickies Rock Day Use Area, one of the parks within the Lancaster County Dept. of Parks and Recreation. You can get directions from the Parks Dept. website, www.co.lancaster.pa.us/parks. Please note the Day Use Area is off Rt. 441 on the opposite side from the Susquehanna River.

One of the Day Use Area's wooded trails circles a deep valley into which trash and appliances have accumulated over the years. Rains have been washing this trash out onto the lower parts of the trail and into the creek. We'll be cleaning up as much of the trash as we can. There is a lot and some of it is heavy and partially buried, so we need as many volunteers as possible.

Even if you can only volunteer for a little while, that will be a big help. All volunteers must wear close-toed shoes and work gloves as some of the trash is rusty and sharp. As there is some poison ivy growing along parts of the trail, I'd recommend wearing pants. Also, consider using bug repellent because we'll be along the stream. Please also bring your own water bottle. Because there are sharp rusty objects along this trail, this outing is not suitable for dogs or young children.

If you can bring any of the following, that would be great!!!!

• Shovel
• Digging bar
• Crow bar
• Pliers
• Wheel barrow
• Hip waders (There are a few tires in the water we'd like to grab.)
• Heavy duty trash bags
